Yes.
Do you need a council or local government permit to demolish the existing dwelling?

Yes. However, usually your demolition contractor will organise this permit for you, and process it faster because of their experience in dealing with the local government.

PRO TIP: Make sure you have both a Demolition Permit and a Building Permit before you demolish (both can be obtained from your local council or shire).

PRO TIP: Ask your demolition contractor to visit your site first and create a comprehensive quote. The quote should be detailed and include absolutely everything in the demolition project. This includes such variables as cost of permits, cost of labour and equipment, cost of removing materials and estimated worth of salvageable items.
