Welcome to the Forsyth 30, a four-bedrooms two storey design by Eden Brae Homes. When creating this home, we definitely wanted to give it a coastal vibe, so my theme for the interior design and styling of this home was Hamptons, a refined elegant look with a definite relaxed coastal feel.

How good does this look! This timber panelling is called ‘wainscoting’. It gives a nautical feel because the vertical lines on the panelling is reminiscent of being on a boat. Apart from adding great texture, it’s also slightly formal, so it’s a very good feature to add to your home for the entry foyer or maybe for any formal rooms throughout your house. The timber panelling also adds further soft contrast against the wall colour; it’s so calming and relaxing that it works so well throughout this whole home.

Now, the staircase is very important in most homes but particularly in this one because you view it the moment you walk inside... by painting the raisers of the staircase white lets the timber treads appear to float and it softens the impact of the staircase, yet it makes it feel refined and sophisticated. The finish is American Oak; the colour of course matches very well with the floor, it adds continuity, and the floor knotted detail adds character, plus the lines catch your eye and draw you into the centre of the home.

So, what do you think of this kitchen, we decided to go for bold contrast, white benchtop in a honed finish, white little subway tiles in a linear profile laid in a herringbone in the splashback. One of the key features in a Hamptons kitchen is actually the profile doors: the shaker profile adds texture and visual interest. And what do you think about this oven, it’s got a fantastic traditional feel and yet it’s very modern and striking. We decided to go white as well as a matching white canopy, again to add some contrast, and is balanced so well in the island by the white enamelled ‘butler sink’. I just love butler sinks; they somehow bring an old and traditional element to what is a modern and contemporary home, and to add a little bit of bling I opted for chrome for the tap and the handles.

Continuing with the Hamptons feel, of course it was an important consideration to get the balance right in the bathroom. Inspired by the nautical colours, the linear subway tiles laid in a herringbone pattern as a feature wall, the perfect jump off point behind the free-standing bath, and it also of course adds an additional textural element. For the vanity, the same deep colour in the shaker door from the kitchen as it adds contrast to the room.

I selected this panelled profile for the internal doors because it definitely has a Hamptons feel. It also adds continuity to the home because the panelled look works really well with the kitchen doors, and for additional consistency, I opted for a chrome finish for the internal door handles, the same finish as the handles in the kitchen.

My styling brief for this home continued the relaxed Hamptons feel. Linen and cotton, soft blues, greens and greys, accentuated by white, lots of white; beautiful hurricane lamps, and seashells, and books.

To come and see this home for yourself and be relaxed and totally Hamptons inspired like I am, you can come right here to Willowdale Estate in Leppington or do the virtual tour of the Forsyth 30 at edenbraehomes.com.au.
